Of all the teams in the Premier League last season, Liverpool were perhaps the most deserving of their position behind the top two, ranking third in over two-thirds of the stats above. The fact that they had the best attack in terms of creating chances will give new head coach Arne Slot a lot to be excited about, but less so their struggles to take them, as the Reds scored fewer goals than their xG while both Manchester City and Arsenal overperformed theirs. Liverpool were a distant third defensively as they were significantly leakier than the top two - conceding 12 more goals than Arsenal and facing 120 more shots than City.
